In a medium bowl, add mashed black beans, breadcrumbs, egg or prepared flax egg, cumin, and onion powder; mix until well combined.

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a compact patty about 1/2 inch thick.

Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and lightly grease. Cook each patty for 5 minutes per side, until golden brown and heated through.

Place each patty on a hamburger bun and serve immediately. Add preferred toppings if desired.
