- In a mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until thoroughly blended.
- In a separate bowl, whisk whole milk, egg, melted unsalted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir gently just until combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are acceptable.
- Transfer batter to a piping bag, squeeze bottle, or use a teaspoon for dispensing.
- Heat a large nonstick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease with additional melted butter.
- Pipe or drop small dots of batter, approximately 1/2 inch in diameter, onto the skillet. Space them slightly apart.
- Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until bubbles form and edges appear set. Flip each piece using a spatula or chopstick and cook for another minute until golden brown.
- Continue with remaining batter, greasing the pan as necessary between batches.
- Serve warm in bowls. Add milk for a cereal-style presentation, or drizzle with maple syrup and garnish with fresh fruit.
